Juab County Fair!

This was my first year as a member of the Juab County Fair Board. I have been planning and attending meetings since March and the fair took place last week. It was great! It was so busy and totally exhausting, but it was a blast. One of my responsibilities was "Fair Contests." The Fair Board really tries to ensure that there is something for everyone at the fair, not just families with livestock, so my job is to fill in the gaps. One contest was the "Diaper Derby" where babies crawl across a rug racing toward their parent. The first one across wins. The photo is of me handing out prizes to the winners.
My kids and Jeff were such good sports through the whole thing. They put up with the heat and the chaos the whole week. Jeff was my number one assistant doing anything and everything I asked all week long, including assembling toys and solving last minute problems. I must say that Levi was the cutest cowboy at the county fair.
Another contest was the Bicycle Barrel Race where kids of all ages raced their bikes in the barrel pattern. The kids with the fastest time in each age division won. Daisy was the winner in her age group - hooray! She was so funny burning around those barrels with her training wheels.

The other contest I was over was "Fair" Factor, which is Fear Factor County Fair style. I had nearly 30 teenagers participating. They had to complete 5 rounds of challenges with people being eliminated at each round. The last one left won $100 cash. The first challenge was to eat a live grasshopper (yes, I had to catch 30 grasshoppers), then they had to shave off their eyebrows, chug a Maggot Milkshake (which was really just chocolate milk and cottage cheese with dead flies sprinkled on top,) stand the longest barefoot in a barrel full of ice (they were screaming in pain,) and crouch in a garbage dumpster with the lid closed as 5 live mice were dropped in one at a time on top of them. The first person to get all 5 mice out won. The winner was actually the Juab County Queen which was pretty cool.

We went to the Western Rodeo, the Ranch Rodeo, the ATV Rodeo and finished the week off with the Demolition Derby. I was so happy to be involved even though it was pretty stressful at times. It was a good time had by all at the Juab County Fair.

What a BIG job! Where do you get your energy??? Sounds like the fair was a huge success!
By the way, will you let me know when Meggan has the baby...I'm such a homebody, I never seem to hear anything. Thanks

30 grasshoppers?!?! oh my heck..that's enough to keep you busy in itself! They really drank a shake with dead flies sprinkled on top??? And the QUEEN won?!? Wow, we might head up to the Juab County fair next year. Sounds like great entertainment!!!! Good job to you for all your organization! In Jr. high and high School i always imagined you would make a great news reporter...but I think your real calling in life is to be the Juab County Fair MC!!! ;)

Fair Factor sounds CRAZY!!!! Never would I do any of those things, yikes! That is so awesome that you were in charge of all of that! I especially love the contest with the babies crawling towards their parents, what a great idea! Go Daisy by the way on winning the bike barrel race, she is awesome!

Fun!!! good thing Hadley "Lightning" Lystrup wasnt in the diaper derby, cause she sure would have put all those other babies to shame. Whoa did I really just say that? Anyways, are there any videos/photos of you catching these 30 grasshoppers? Because that would be quite ammusing and I am willing to pay big bucks to view them! Did you think of all of the fair factor events? Those are pretty gross! Glad everyone had a good time! Good job Miss Daisy!!!!

I am seriously disgusted at the fair factor...so gross!!! And Daisy looked so cute with her helmet on holding her prize! You are an inspiration for involvement in a community! But then, you've always been good at stuff like that! I'd rather be the "helper" I think!

How fun to be so involved with your fair days. I bet it really was stressful at times though. I am very proud of you husband for being so supportive and helping you so much. I am afraid my husband wouldn't be nearly as helpful as Jeff! What a great husband you have. All of the activities sound way fun, (except for the insect and mice ones). I am sure everyone appreciated all of your hard work!
